12784: Home Energy Audit
As a trusted, certified passive house builder as well as a certified installer of the Blow-In-Blanket-System (BIBS), Lakeside Advanced Builders is a diligent believer in education. As such, we boast many qualifications and membership in various reputable organizations.
Certified Passive House Builder. Comprised of a four-day class on the mechanics of building high-energy efficient homes, this is built on the Passive House standards of energy performance, which create the most stringent building codes on the planet. You may never have heard what a Passive House, but you should do a little research on it. You’ll be amazed. These homes are the foundation for the future of building codes, using an economically sound basis for energy efficiency in today’s structures. When a house is built according to Passive House standards, it incorporates the very best in what the future should include when it comes to homes of all kinds. There are so many, it would be impossible to list them all!
Building Performance Institute. We are qualified as a Building Envelope professional, meaning we test homes for a variety of factors. This includes combustion safety, blower door and infrared testing, as well as duct testing. These are all done to ensure your utmost safety, and that there is no excess carbon monoxide inside the house that could kill you or make you sick. Blower door tests are done to determine where the gas is and where the leak is coming from. Additionally, our professionals can test your heating ducts to ensure even heat distribution which is much more important than we ever realized before.
Energy Star (now known as Focus On Energy New Homes) Builder and Ally. We took part in these programs because they involved learning about everything from advanced air sealing to combustion safety to building science. We’ve also gone through classes in regards to high-performance windows and walls, whole house ventilation, indoor air quality, and insulation of homes. We also have in-depth knowledge of how to airseal homes.
Environments for Living Master Contractor. This interesting three-day building science course resulted in our certification.
Blow In Blanket System installer. This two-day class focused on the installation of Blow-in Blanket Systems (BIBS) insulation.
Blow In Blanket Contractors Association. It’s no secret that we’ve been on the board of directors for five years, so this made it easy to take part in BIBS training. We also attended conventions and have even taught at some of them. BIBCA conventions offer extremely beneficial classes on insulating and airsealing. To our credit, we have manned trade show booths all around the United States and have gone to various classes offered at these shows. Attending these shows has made it possible to communicate with others from all over the world, including Europe and Canada, to find out how they go about the same things where they live. These have been wonderful learning opportunities for us as a team.
Duluth Energy Design Expo. Using our continuing education credits toward these training classes, we have toured the country learning and taking away valuable information. The classes here in Duluth are some of the best in the whole nation. Classes included those involving building science and best practices sessions for all home-building phases, as well as for creating and developing zero-energy homes.
The Better Buildings, Better Business (B-4) conference. Located in Wisconsin Dells, these were similar classes to those offered by the Energy Design Expo, where we have been presenters and participants.
International Ground Source Heat Pump Association. We underwent training in geothermal heat and can now say we are expert installers.
Arrowhead Builders Association, Builders Association of Minnesota and the National Association of Home Builders. We belong to all of these reputable organizations and are proud to associate with all the professionals within them.
Midwest Renewable Energy Association. We have taken courses on renewable energy, including those that instruct about basic photovoltaics and hot water.
Via our connections with so many different organizations and building science experts, we know we can find the answer to any question. While research is ongoing in these fields, there is a plethora of information out there available, and we are happy to embark on journeys to train on new methods and products as needed.
